Japanese New Year Traditions – Matcha e Osechi

The first tea ceremony of the new year is called Hatsugama (初釜). Tea practitioners hold a special tea gathering with lunch and matcha tea with tea sweets.

You will be served a traditional Japanese new year meal “osechi ryori (おせち料理)” and will get a short lecture about osechi ryori. A cup of matcha tea with tea sweets from Japan will be served after the meal. No previous experience required.
